Alabama's Bicentennial Celebration
It is not often that a state celebrates two centuries of statehood. During the span of 2018 and 2019, the state as a whole will celebrate its "Places, People, & Stories."
The City of Oxford Bicentennial Committee was organized, in November 2017, in the efforts to promote and preserve the history of Oxford and its impact on the history of the State of Alabama. Our Executive Committee is composed of the City of Oxford Library Director, Main Street Director, Fire Chief, and Programs Director for Parks and Recreation. The committee plans to complete two projects before December 2019. The Projects will celebrate the people of Oxford through a traveling exhibit and an oral history interview. The projects will be in two phases known as Oxford's People: Traveling Exhibit and Oxford's People: Oral History Interviews.
We are currently taking nominations for Oxford citizens, residents, and natives to be recognized in our traveling exhibit. Please follow the link to our: online nomination form.
If you wish to participate in our project, please contact Hunter Gentry at hgentry@mainstreetoxford.org or 256-241-6667.
